Meet The Teacher~~LInky

Hey all!  I am Jameson From ^DUH^ Lessons With Coffee.  I decided to Jump on the band wagon and Link up with Falling into First For the Meet The Teacher Blogger.

So.  My name is Jameson.  I am older than I would like to admit.  Teaching is actually my second career. I graduated in 2004 from The University Of Minnesota (Go Gofers) with a double degree in Creative Writing and History and a minor in Art.  What the heck do you do with that?  Well I worked at the Guthrie Theater where I edited plays for historical value.  The easiest way for me do describe what I have done:

"Have you seen the movie Titanic...YOu know the blockbuster with Leo DiCaprio in it?  Yeah you know when Jack and Rose are getting it on in the car?  YES!  Ok that car.  Was not invented yet!"

I did that.  But for plays.  I looked at dialect, costuming, sets, and figurative speech.

SO when I tell you that I do not like teaching math all day...It is because really I am a writer, A reader, An editor, A historian, A playwrite.  I love all of these AND math AND science.

I am a generalist to the core...I just happen to be ok at Algebra at the same time!

This will mark my 3rd year teaching full time.  I am scheduled to teach only 6th grade math this year.  We will see what that brings.   I am pretty stinkin excited to meet my students!  ALL  200 of them.

I have a boyfriend of almost 3 years!  He is pretty awesome. He might be my fravorite.

I also have a little pit bull mix named Angus.  ALSO awesome...Also a favorite.

We live in St. Paul Minnesota.

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS...

Post It Notes, Small notebooks, Skittles, Fireworks, Glitter, Margaritas, and Snowcones.

I love rescue dogs and helping out rescues.  I love spray paint (particularly gold), learning, reading, barbiquing.

IF YOU WEREN'T A TEACHER, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO BE?
When I was growing up I wanted to be a map maker.  Strait up a cartographer.  When I was 17 and told to go to college I went for liberal arts.  In 2008 the economy got nasty and I lost hours and had to go back to school.  I at first chose Dentistry.  Then I chose Education.

Go figure.

THREE LITTLE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOU.
Tenacious, Comedic, Loyal

FINISH THE SENTENCE, "________,  SAID NO TEACHER EVER!!"

"Sure we would love to add 3 more students in our classroom...said no teacher EVER!!"

or

"I love buying school supplies for your kid...said no teacher EVER!!"

Creating Ratio Posters

This was a really fun project that I did with my 7th graders when we were working on ratios, Rates and proportions that I never got a chance to post this past year, and I will not be teaching 7th grade again! (sort of sad...but not really.)
To introduce the topic we started with a review of ratios.  Below you will find the worksheet that went along with the project.  You can see this student was using her worksheet to help her think of a topic idea!!  LOVE!

She also was not very careful with her worksheet.  Sorry for the wrinkles.  As you can see the students had to pick a topic, draw or represent (i told them they could use stickers or glue objects to their poster) 20 objects, then on a second sheet of paper complete 10 questions relating to ratios from their poster and reflect.  Here is what this student came up with!

If you have had any questions about using art or projects in a math class here it is, Directly from the mouth (er, hand) of a student.  STUDENTS LOVE VISUAL PROJECTS …

Back To School First Day Activity Idea

Hi there!  I have been slacking on the blogging lately.  When summer started I was upset that I was not going to be teaching summer school, and that I had to drop out of Grad School for a while (Due to some REALLY ridiculous issues at a different school not allowing my transcripts to get set over...Long story really.), but I have actually been INCREDIBLY busy this whole summer.

I wanted to do a quick share for an activity that you can do on the first day of school and how I used it last year! (I wish I had pictures!!! That is going to be one of my goals this upcoming school year is to take more pictures in my room, of my products.  I think it is actually going to become a classroom job!!!)
So here it is I posted this last year about this time but it works so well.  I have it as a freebie in my TPT store. You can click the picture or HERE to download.
This is what I did last year and will do again this year on the first day of school.  I took pictures of all of my students on the fi…
