April Slant Box Sign Ups are Open

The April sign ups for the SLANT BOX exchange have opened!  I was so amazed that there were NO rematches in March!  "Lucky Me".

Anyhoo, yes the April sign ups are open.  I decided if I want to participate yet.  I LOVE the theme but I do not want to be a flaker. We will see how many sign up!  If there is an ODD number of sign ups it is god's will that I participate!.

I am sure you are anxiously awaiting the theme of April.... I went with it....here it goes.....

Spring Into a Good Book!

Basically the idea is to pick your favorite book. This book could be adult, children's, YA or professional Get your partner a copy of it (could be used or new...You know teachers.) Then the rest of the box must match the book! For example. Say your favorite book is Harrold and the Purple Crayon. You would get that book and fill a box with loads of things that make you think of this book. Custom box of Purple Crayons, or Purple ink pens. I would put slippers in the box because he looks so cozy in his onsie. I would maybe put grape jelly beans even (As a middle school teacher it has been a LONG time since I read that book! lol). Make sense??? With spring break, spring weather and other things I wanted a theme that would be whimsey and fun. I honestly have to clap my self on the back for this one! If you do not have a blog, make sure you show your partner pictures of your room in social media or through email!

.
ANYWAY.

HERE IS THE SIGN UP!!!!! Same rules there. You have till the 3rd of the April. You can always use the tab at the top of my blog too. PLEASE tell your friends. ALSO, EVERYONE who is involved in education is invited to join. I mean that sincerely.

I will have a post for links to Marches boxes up by the 30th. If you haven't sent your march box please do so shortly!

Have fun, See you around the SLANT BOX world!

  1. Just signed up for the first time ever! I'm excited but now I have to decide a favorite book that is NOT an education book.

Creating Ratio Posters

This was a really fun project that I did with my 7th graders when we were working on ratios, Rates and proportions that I never got a chance to post this past year, and I will not be teaching 7th grade again! (sort of sad...but not really.)
To introduce the topic we started with a review of ratios.  Below you will find the worksheet that went along with the project.  You can see this student was using her worksheet to help her think of a topic idea!!  LOVE!

She also was not very careful with her worksheet.  Sorry for the wrinkles.  As you can see the students had to pick a topic, draw or represent (i told them they could use stickers or glue objects to their poster) 20 objects, then on a second sheet of paper complete 10 questions relating to ratios from their poster and reflect.  Here is what this student came up with!

If you have had any questions about using art or projects in a math class here it is, Directly from the mouth (er, hand) of a student.  STUDENTS LOVE VISUAL PROJECTS …

Back To School First Day Activity Idea

Hi there!  I have been slacking on the blogging lately.  When summer started I was upset that I was not going to be teaching summer school, and that I had to drop out of Grad School for a while (Due to some REALLY ridiculous issues at a different school not allowing my transcripts to get set over...Long story really.), but I have actually been INCREDIBLY busy this whole summer.

I wanted to do a quick share for an activity that you can do on the first day of school and how I used it last year! (I wish I had pictures!!! That is going to be one of my goals this upcoming school year is to take more pictures in my room, of my products.  I think it is actually going to become a classroom job!!!)
So here it is I posted this last year about this time but it works so well.  I have it as a freebie in my TPT store. You can click the picture or HERE to download.
This is what I did last year and will do again this year on the first day of school.  I took pictures of all of my students on the fi…
