To Do List for 2013-14 School Year

Holy Crap.  There is quite possibly way to much to do in the next few weeks.  But here we go.  In no particular order.

1. Scan all books into iPad book tracking system.  I am using Book Manger, Collector from Sort it! Apps.  I really like the app Classroom Organizer but it is only for the iPhone and I want to use the iPads that we have.
2. NOISE letters for behavioral management.

I got the idea from Pinterest, but I THINK the original idea came from this blog.  If I am wrong please let me know.
"NOISE…removing one letter at a time when our voice level gets too loud. When NO is left, there is NO more talking! Love this! A lot clearer than just putting up strikes on the board or letting the noise escalate to a point where you just cut off talking. It also gives the kids a chance to regain control of their noise before it gets to that point."
3. Chalkboard clipboards.  I was trolling through bloglovin and found this:
ON Creating Brain Wrinkles.  This new little blog that I found that is supes adorbs!  Can not wait to make these.  I bought 10 clip boards at Target today (only because they only had 10).  They have chalkboard paint on the back to use instead of whiteboards...which I was going to make out of tagboard and laminate but now I think I will just stick with the chalk.  I am going to try the chalk spray paint rather than the brush on.  I will obviously let you know how it goes.
4. Teacher tool kit.  Well at my mothers garage sale she had three (count them three) tool boxes that are perfect for this.  I am also the Lego League Coach so I will need more than one!  You know it, you have seen it, I feel like the first one that I saw was on Create.Teach.Share.  My favorite though that I have seen thus far is this one:

From The Science Diva.  SO cute!  I got the paper to put on the inside but then I got little chalk board labels to put on the outside. Here is hoping mine turns out as cute. I am trying to decide if I should also spray paint the outside chalkboard, or if I should get the colors of my classroom.  I think Chalkboard would be super cool.  What do you think?
5. Homework Logs.  Ok I get it, kids do not do their homework.  My number one goal this year is to instill an intrinsic want to do homework.  I understand in math, many of my kids just do not understand the concepts, they go home and can not do the concepts, they have no computer to look it up, no parent at home to help them.  BUT, I need for them to try.  I really like this homework log from Simply 2nd Resources
On the subject of homework.  I saw this post from Young Teacher Love about a homework hot spot.  She made a flipping video about it and here it is:

HomeworkHotspot from Kristine Nannini on Vimeo.

So Cool.  I am obsessed with the idea of making students have acountability.  However...I went to Michaels today and that pocket chart was 25$.  that is 75$ I do not have...SO I thought about this pin I did a long time ago from The Sliver Lining:

6.  I do not even know what this is called but I love it.  And I want to make them for my classroom in my colors.
This is from First Grade Glitter and Giggles.  I would leave off markers, and supplies perhaps, but maybe not.  Because I use Math Journals it might be a good idea to let students know when they are supposed to be using pencil (notes, classwork) or when they are allowed to have out journal supplies.  Hmmmmm.  I love "talking" to you all, it lets me "think out loud" with out actually being out loud.
7.  An exit slip parking lot. I have no idea who came up with this first.  So I am just going to share the one I like the most.  This one from Cheryl's Classroom Tips
What I like about this one is that I can change the topic every day.  This illuminates the "what was the topic" question I always get when i just verbally say it (17 times).  I wish I knew how many students I have in my largest class!
8. A teacher binder.

YOu know.  It looks ridiculously cute, has everything you need in it, and conveniently you made it so it is custom to your school, classroom colors, and your standards.  I really would like to have all of mine in one, and then have a sub binder.  Sadly, this may be the last of my items I check off.
9. THIS!
I do not know the original poster of this but....I work in a very urban environment.  They tell me I have "Teacher Swag" they tell each other they got swag!  Talk about making learning connect culture....well here you go!
10. A reward system.  There are so many out there.  I am totally going to make my own but here is a cute one from Create. Cook. Teach.
I have yet to see one for a secondary classroom.  So I am going to have to forge down that trail by my self.  I will be sure to post!
11. Attendance Tracker.   I love this one from Controlling my Chaos.  Nuff said.
I also kind of want to do something to this effect for knowing where students are.

Although I would have BIP, OFFICE, NURSE, SECURITY as we do not give bathroom passes, they have to go to security then get an afterschool detention. I know it seams harsh but we have a lot of fights (bad video taped ones) in the bathrooms, vandalism, and other nonsense (like smoking).  So kids are to use the bathroom during passing time and during passing time only.

12.  An absent bin.  NO idea who did this.  I can not find it anywhere.

Holy Crap.  That is way more than I thought it would be.  I also want to put paper on the outside of ALL of my drawers for my plastic drawers, make some posters for my room, table numbers, some sort of name plate and many other things.  But right now this is what is on my MUST DO list.  UGH.  Guess I better get going.  What are you making right now for your classroom?  I would love to see!

  1. Hey there! Got your message on my blog- was going to reply by email but you came up as a no-reply blogger, so I found you here. :) (you can change from no-reply if you want- check on my blog under techy tips!)
Anyway, to answer your question, my name is Jessica which is VERY common so instead of people calling me by my first and last name, they merged it to Jivey. :) it's cool to meet another one! ;-)

  5. I am tackling book organization as my summer project, too. I am using the Classroom organizer app from booksource, though. You can use the app on your iPad! You just download the iPhone version. In the app store click on "iPhone" at the top of the screen after you search for the app. Then, in the bottom right hand corner you click on "2x" and it enlarges it to fit the screen. :)
