October SLANT BOX sign up are open

The October sign ups for the SLANTbox exchange have opened!  I will admit that I was probably not the best SLANTbox partner this month but I feel like the gals I randomly got paired up with I got to know really well this summer. Please know if you get me for a partnere for the first part of the month I am literally spending HOURS re-matching people it is not until about now that I finally have some time to email, and I already have to send out my gift on WEDNESDAY!!!!

So as I prepare to send out my box to my partner I am thrilled to share with you the theme for the month of OCTOBER.




EDUCATING CAN BE SCARY!!!! 

Ok. If you read my post yesterday you can see that my education life got turned upside down...8th graders are totally scary! The idea behind this months theme is to think of things that make your day to day life less scary. Perhaps it is tea, or a movie. Be creative and help make others lives less scary. (planners are big de-scarifyers!!!!). Please be sensitive to others personal beliefs and ask before you send out Halloween themed goodies. I know it could be super easy to just whip together a goblin and ghost care package, but let's face it not everyone participates in Halloween.

Last month I tried to match people up as best as I could with someone they have not been with already. I also did veteran partners and newbie partners to combat flakey partners.

 This month however, due to time. If you do not get me your emails by the correct dates and times I may not be able to help you. I am not trying to be ugly but I am trying to hold on to my sanity.

SO PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR PARTICIPATION ON THE TAB AT THE TOP OF MY BLOG BEFORE YOU SIGN UP!!!!!!!

ANYWAY.

HERE IS THE SIGN UP!!!!! Same rules there. You have till the 3rd of the month to sign up. You can always use the tab at the top of my blog too. PLEASE tell your friends let's see if we can beat the number that signed up last month. ALSO, EVERYONE who is involved in education is invited to join. I mean that sincerely.

    Just signed up for my second go around. I love it. Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication in putting this together and keeping it going. I hope your year gets easier but I can completely relate to your undertaking at school.

    I loved participating... I haven't gotten my box yet but I already mailed out my box :) It gave me something to look forward too even just doing the shopping and doing something nice for someone else! It's a great release :) I can't wait to sign up again! Thanks Jameson for all your hard work! ugh... 8th graders are scary! I did student teaching in 7th and there were plenty of hormones there :) :)

    I completely understand 8th graders being scary! Try teaching 8th grade male reluctant readers who just want to talk about basketball or pass gas in class! Because that's what I dealt with on the daily in middle school last year! URGH! I feel your pain. Shipping out my box tomorrow...just signed up for round 3! :)

    This looks like lots of fun. I've enjoyed seeing pictures over the past few months of people's boxes. I'm a day late 😞so I'll wait and sign up next month, but I'm looking forward to it!!

HI! I am actually Blogging!  That is crazy. We are getting prepared for a huge sale on TPT and So I thought I would let you know a little more in detail about one of my newest products. My students LOVED this activity.  I went to the store and bought "Fun Sized" bags of a very popular brand name candy coated chocolate candy. (If you look at the pictures you can probably figure out what it is :))  I also bought a bag of the "Mini" version of this particular candy!  Then I snagged a box of Dixie cups.  The idea of this activity is that students are to find the fraction/decimal/percent of each color in the bag of "Fun Sized" and the fraction/decimal/percent of the "Mini" versions. THEN.  Here is the kicker...they are to compare them to one another!  OH ingenious.  Many of my students were really confused on comparing .25 to 1/4.  Having the visuals of the candies helped them to grasp this concept!!!  Score! ...

There Is No Achievement Gap At Birth One of the things I find myself constantly arguing is the fact that I am a white teacher in a not so white school.  I think I have heard (from the mouths of white people) “do you ever fear for your life?” more times than I would like to admit.  No I do not fear for my life.  I know where this is stemming from, the idea that black teenagers are somehow “more dangerous” than white teenagers.  Most of the time these types of comments are from folks who I believe to not be RACIST but, let's face it, they are pretty prejudice.  And there is a HUGE difference.
